" ...nelle selezioni di De/Generator (LDM crew - Roma_Salento) #38; Faugno, dopo una giusta dedica al presidente statunitense uscente, un giusto tributo al pioniere del Roots, King of Sounds, the "Zulu Warrior", Jah Shaka! Shaka, per coloro che conoscono la sua storia, egrave; il nome del guerriero africano 'King of Zulus'. Per coloro che amano la musica Reggae, Shaka egrave; il nome dell'indiscusso re dei Sound System dediti alla cultura e musica Roots, in Gran Bretagna e in Giamaica. Il suo apprendistato inizia durante i primi anni '70, un periodo caratterizzato da fortissime motivazioni culturali e rivelatosi come il piugrave; straordinario della storia del reggae britannico. Fin da quel tempo Shaka egrave; ben conscio dell'importanza dello strumento sound system, definito come 'il vero e unico mezzo di comunicazione del popolo' capace di diffondere messaggi altrimenti non rintracciabili... La culture del sound system nell'interpretazione di Shaka non egrave; riservata alla massa indistinta dei consumatori del weekend, egrave; alternativa e irriducibile ai canoni commerciali di molta della recente produzione di derivazione giamaicana (con le parole di Shaka: "I'm not playing on a commercial basis"): la musica deve cercare di avere un ruolo fondamentale nelle comunitagrave; locali, deve anche agire come un maestro ed uno storico, deve diffondere notizie e informazioni, deve essere un liberatore di anime oppresse, e il suo dedicarsi a questi compiti e funzioni sociali non deve mai interrompersi. Jah Shaka Sound System egrave; quindi uno strumento di impegno sociale, da sempre legato alle promozione delle radici culturali della Black Consciousness, e alla denuncia del carattere di sterminio delle deportazioni schiavistiche in Terra d'Africa. Shaka egrave; un musicista, un cantante, un compositore, ma anche produttore, ingegnere del suono e proprietario di una etichetta discografica (ormai leggendaria la serie dei 'Commandments of Dub'). Musica come messaggio e divertimento, l'unico linguaggio che indipendentemente da differenze di razza, religione o lingua, tutti possono comprendere. Progetto complessivo di Musica dal Basso che, tra l'altro, sotto il nome di Jah Shaka Foundation promuove e finanzia progetti di assistenza medica e sociale in Giamaica, Etiopia, Ghana: scuole, biblioteche, radio locali, e altro ancora sono tra i progetti avviati tramite l'impegno della Fondazione ma, come sempre, il lavoro continua...
