R&D VIBES  dedica a special tribute to THE DISCIPLES!

The Disciples nel quadriennio 1987-1990 stampa i suoi primi lavori per la Jah Shaka Music, il primo LP ha come titolo “Deliverance – Commandments Of Dub Chapter 6”, produzione Jah Shaka…

Nel solco della tradizione dell’autocostruzione, nel 1991 fondano the BoomShackaLacka Sound System, il loro imponente sound system, mentre nel 1993 danno lo stesso nome alla loro prima etichetta discografica, label specializzata in produzioni strumentali dub e hardcore dub.

Nel 1996, però, Lol Bell-Brown abbandona il progetto The Disciples, lasciando solo il fratello Russ D. Inoltre, dal 1996 non è piu’ purtroppo possibile ascoltare il BoomShackaLacka Sound System in azione…

The Disciples non si ferma però, e nel 1997 Russ D. crea la seconda label, Backyard Movements,  completamente dedicata alle releases vocali roots-reggae…

Ancora oggi Russ D gira il mondo proponendo serious & conscious sessions nelle molte yard dedite alla roots&dub music, spesso accompagnato da cantanti del calibro di Jonah Dan oppure Brother Culture.. .

Ovviamente continua a sfornare produzioni dal suono molto riconoscibile, basso profondo, melodie incisive e pulizia sonora…

In piu’ di 20 anni di carriera ha sfornato piu’ di 60 singoli, tra 7,10 e 12 pollici, collaborando, tra gli altri, con singer e produttori come Dayjah, Prince Alla, Ras MacBean,  Derloy Dyer, CandyMan, Christine Miller, Wayne McArthur, Lutan Fyah, Tthe Rootsman, Vibronics, Alpha&Omega, Dubkasm…

Per chi volesse apprezzarlo in full action, il  21 marzo ‘009 Russ D. è atteso in Italia con Jonah Dan per una serata di vibrazioni sonore ad alta intensità, per il Ministry of Dub – Charter 3 presso il CSOA Gabrio di Torino.

A tal proposito, da una intervista con Greg Whitfield, del maggio 2003:

When you are looking for bass sounds, how do you go about creating a deep, heavy rich vibration in your music? Is this different from the bass sound you look for when you create bass in your sound system?

“[…] For us, the bass is all important and comes secondary to nothing. We do manipulate the sound, sometimes rolling in the bass so it seems to be coming in from beneath, other times we just draw for the hardest possible bass we can create, lifting up the upper bass frequencies, powering them into distortion, twisting the sound from hard, to deep, and back again, then onward to air shaking proportions. This is pure vibration rather than tone. Bass dynamics in all its possible ranges.”
